On the right is the side we see from Earth — the near side. It is recognizable by the dark lava plains that cover much of its its surface. The notes point out nuances in colors that crew members could see from the Orion spacecraft. Browns reflect varying levels of iron, and greens signal the presence of glass that formed during ancient volcanic eruptions or asteroid impacts.
