art002e023314 (April 2, 2026) – The Artemis II crew captured this view of Earth from approximately 43,500 miles (70,000 kilometers) away. Sunlight illuminates a portion of the planet while much of Earth remains in shadow, creating a curved boundary between day and night. South America is prominent in the sunlit portion, where the Atacama Desert, Andes Mountains, cloud formations, and other surface features are visible against the darkness of space. Credit: NASA
